www.buy.at/SHC

We have received our first cheque from www.buy.at/SHC. This was for a very small number of transactions, but it bought in 40 quid to the Club coffers. For those of you that are not aware, the www.buy.at scheme allows organisations (like us) to raise funds by providing a Stourport Hockey Club shopping portal on the web.
Basically, there are hundreds of very well established stores that are available through the www.buy.at service.
To name a few, there are:

  • Amazon
  • John Lewis
  • Marks and Spencer
  • HMV
  • IKEA
  • BT
  • Tesco
  • Expedia
  • Mothercare
  • Premier Inn
There are literally hundreds of stores available, offering services like shopping, travel, insurance, online services and many other items. There is absolutely no downside to shopping this way. You can still use your existing account with any of the online shops and services and all of the same offers are available by going through the www.buy.at/SHC portal. All that is required, in order to raise funds for the club, is that you access the store via our Stourport Hockey Club "portal" at www.buy.at/SHC.

If you do any shopping online, or buy any services online, then please try and remember to do it through the above link, (remember to bookmark the link in your web browser)!

Please feel free to forward the link to any family and friends that you feel would like to help raise funds for the Club, (don't send out loads of SPAM messages to every email address you have though...)!

This could be a tremendous way for us to really boost our funds, all it needs is for all of us to remember to use the link!

SHC Newsletter

I hope you all had a great Christmas and best wishes to you all for a Happy New Year. It is now time to burn that turkey off! The season kicks off this weekend and we look forward to a great 2nd half of the season.

We will soon be starting an SHC Newsletter, to keep members and supporters of the club up to date on activities (including the re-building of the club house). You can subscribe to the newsletter on the homepage of the club website.
If you have some news or information which you think should feature in a newsletter, please send it to us here.
Also, can I ask you all for feedback on how you would like to see the club house improved upon when it is rebuilt. It is very important that we get as much evidence of our members wishes as possible, so that we can push our ideas for improvement forward. You can provide feedback by clicking here.

Man charged with arson

Interim Arrangements

Thank you to all those members who have sent messages of support since the sad news about the Sports Club has been circulated. The Sports Club and the Hockey Club are working hard to make arrangements going forward and notifications to members will be sent out on a regular basis.

Due to the current circumstances at the Sports Club after the fire please see details below for the immediate interim arrangements:

ADULT TRAINING & VETERANS
All adult training this week will take place as normal (Men – Tuesday 8-10pm, Ladies – Wednesday 8-10pm). These will be the last sessions before Christmas and we will notify you shortly of when these will start again. Arrangements have been made for changing and toilet facilities to be available at the school during these times. There will be someone on site to direct you to these and open and lock them as necessary.
The mens’ veterans game on Wednesday this week will also go ahead as normal.

JUNIOR TRAINING
The decision has been taken to cancel all Wednesday night junior training sessions that were due to take place before Christmas. Junior training on a Wednesday will re-start after Christmas on 9th January.

JUNIOR ACADEMY
The junior academy on a Friday night (7-8.30pm) will be running for the next 2 weeks and will finish on Friday 14th December. There will be access to toilet facilities during this time, but we would prefer it if they were not needed.

MATCHES AT THE WEEKEND
All matches at the weekends before Christmas will go ahead as normal. Changing and toilet facilities will be made available at the school, although it is unlikely that we will be able to provide teas this side of Christmas. Teams that are travelling to our venue will be made aware of this by our fixture secretaries.

ARRANGEMENTS GOING FORWARD
Alternative provision for changing, teas and social facilities are currently being investigated. Once arrangements for after Christmas have been finalised, information will be circulated to members.

Message from Rob Lashford

Rob Lashford, one of our Directors on the Sports Club Committee, has issued the following statement:

Dear All

Regrettably I write to you to inform you that in the early hours of this morning the Sports Club was burnt to the ground - believed to be arson.

The pitches remain unaffected and the floodlights are working which will allow hockey to still be played.

We will forward you more details, as they are available, on how we propose to function this weekend and beyond.

As a Hockey Club we will need to support the Sports Club in any way we can to ensure we put this disastrous occurrence behind us.

All members were due to pay their annual subscription by 31st October. All members should also complete a membership form by this time (U18 members also need to complete a signed copy of a declaration form). Declaration forms and subscriptions can be given to captains to pass on to the club treasurer. All details of subscriptions as well as membership forms are available via the membership page of the club website (www.stourport-hc.co.uk). Members are reminded that if they have not paid or made arrangements to pay (via the Executive) their subscription by the deadline then this will be taken into account in selection and members are not covered by the clubs public liability insurance.

Teamsheet on Website

We are hoping to move towards posting the teamsheet on the website only over the next few weeks. This means that it won’t be sent out via e-mail. Members will be able to access the teamsheet by downloading it from the SHC website www.stourport-hc.co.uk . Over the next 3 weeks the teamsheet will be e-mailed out and posted on the relevant section page of the website (usually by Wednesday morning). If you go onto the site before a Wednesday morning and are unable to access the teamsheet via the link it is probably because it hasn’t been posted yet. Could members please begin to check that they can access the teamsheet via the website. If anyone is unable to do this or has problems doing so could they please e-mail us so that we can rectify this.

Junior Academy is Back!

STOURPORT HOCKEY CLUB JUNIOR ACADEMY is starting again this Friday (2nd November 2008). It will take place at Stourport Sports Club from 7pm until 8.30pm (registration from 6.45pm).

Following the successful introduction of this scheme at the end of last season we are pleased to be running the academy again for the remainder of the 2007-8 season (Every Friday from 2nd November until 14th December 2007 and then from 18th January until 14th March 2008).

The academy is an opportunity for any junior players (age 8-21, not just members of Stourport Hockey Club) to further their individual talent under the guidance of top class coaches. The focus of the academy is on individual skills, assessment and player development. This is a fantastic opportunity to receive additional coaching. The academy is not intended to replace junior training on a Wednesday night. SHC members should still continue to attend junior training but can in addition attend the academy.

If you're interested in attending, your first session is free, after which the charge is £2 per session for SHC members and £4 per session for non-members. Regular attendance at the academy is valued but players can start attending at any point in the season.

If you want to attend the first session this Friday please arrive for registration at 6.45pm and send a reply to this e-mail to indicate your intention to attend.

For further information please see the attached document or contact Holly Lashford with any queries.

Regards,

Gum Shields

We have the potential to take up an offer as a club for moulded gum shields made to individual moulds. The company will give us self impression kits which will then be sent back for the final mouth guards to be made up from. The more people we get who want a moulded gum shield the cheaper they will be. We estimate the cost at present will be approx £30 each. This is a considerable saving on the cost of a moulded gum shield from the dentist (usually anything upwards of £50). The gum shields will include the SHC logo. We are currently investigating this possibility and would like to get a rough idea of the numbers of people who would be interested. If you would be interested in this offer please e-mail back to that effect or let your captain know at the weekend.

Send me your pictures!

It would be great to add a Gallery section to our website, with photos of various Club related activities. If you have some suitable photos, please email them to me so that I can upload them, (I will be checking them for dodgy content!!!).
Also, I would like to place a team photo on each of the individual team pages. If you have an up to date photo of your team, please send that to me aswell. Make sure to add a little info about each photo so I can caption them.
